What are “cult” movies?

I hear the phrase “cult classic” or “cult film”. I went to a local store and went to the “Cult Film” section, and it looked like a bunch of movies from the 80’s, 70’s, and 90’s, some were known, some I never heard of. And it was always weird movies that looked to be some kind of cheesy horror movie, or some weird drugged-out movie. Something along the lines of those “grindhouse” double-feature movies they showed back in the day.

And from what I gather, Cult movies can be either be incredibly good or incredibly bad. For example “Attack of the Killer Tomatoes” was in the Cult section yet that movie was unbelievably horrible.
thinking: Is it your time of the month again? Yes I know Google is available but I wanted to hear multiple answers from people.

I guess you think Yahoo Answers shouldn’t exist since almost anything can be Googled.

Cult movies are ones that aren’t enjoyed by the mainstream. Rather there is a small but very loyal group of people who LOVE the movie.

With Attach of the Killer Tomatoes you will find there is a small group of people who really enjoy that style of film.

A good example of a better cult film would be The Boondock Saints.

The Haunting of Hill House (Penguin Classics)

$8.50

Shirley Jackson’s The Haunting of Hill House has unnerved readers since its original publication in 1959. A tale of subtle, psychological terror, it has earned its place as one of the significant haunted house stories of the ages. Eleanor Vance has always been a loner–shy, vulnerable, and bitterly resentful of the 11 years she lost while nursing her dying mother. “She had spent so long alo…

Stephen King’s second book, ‘Salem’s Lot (1975)–about the slow takeover of an insular hamlet called Jerusalem’s Lot by a vampire patterned after Bram Stoker’s Dracula–has two elements that he also uses to good effect in later novels: a small American town, usually in Maine, where people are disconnected from each other, quietly nursing their potential for evil; and a mixed bag of rational, …
