Best Horror Movies of 2009
2009 was not the best year for horror movies, but they gave us a new version with success, a new a legendary film director, a Blair Witch-inspired surprise low-budget classic, and a Nazi zombie movie-so it was not all bad. Without further ado, the best horror movies of 2009.
My Bloody Valentine 3D
This remake of terror with a 3D twist surprised fans and critics alike as one of the best and most surprisingly fun horror films in recent history. The pot is basically the same with few differences from the original, but all in all the film is faithful to the original and does a great job of using the 3D affects to keep screaming.
Drag Me To Hell
The director Sam Raimi returned to his horror and comedy film roots (see Evil Dead) to direct this fun and horrible romp about a girl who is condemned to hell. It is not the scariest horror movie of the year, but was one of the most fun and was great to see Raimi back to his roots after the Spiderman movies.
Paranormal Activity
The surprise hit of the year, this film with a shoestring budget, was published around the country after that an online petition system monumental became one of the most talked about films of the year. Another entry in the Shakey-cam horror genre, "Paranormal Activity "did a good job of trying to show a disquieting home so convincingly as possible. It was a truly terrifying film that made me curl up in my bunk bed in fear.
Dead Snow
Dead Snow is about Nazi Zombies in Sweden. Yes, Zombies Nazis. This film was a black horse candidate for best horror film more or less the day the plan was revealed. Take the issue more seriously than it looks and is a great addition to any collection of zombie lovers.
