How do I promote myself as a film director?
I've directed some short films (horror, dark fantasy) without However, due to their nature were not selected to screen at film festivals, which are too dark for him. I think I have the talent to do something bigger, but I need guidance. Can anyone help?
I've been in a lot of film festivals, including some films that showcased some very dark and terrible. I have serious doubts that his films have been rejected simply because they were "too dark". Unless you chose the wrong kind of festival and his works were inadequate. Maybe your "talent" is not as sharp as you think it is. The way to be noticed is that small successes lead to big ones. And, true talent is like starting the little successes.
