horror movie typography

If you are involved in internet marketing you are probably familiar with "landing pages". You know, those pages shout to be in big, fat, bold (and usually red) text to get you to sign the mailing list or buy the product. I am interested in the sources and color and sometimes I wonder if this strategy works, or whether the use of such "in your face 'font and color is really counterproductive.

Seeing Red

Do not know about you but I've always thought that the text in red indicates danger. Could the message gigantic, red, pointed out that in fact scaring customers away? I realize that red is also the urgency and I am sure this is the message that the seller wants to put in: "Buy now or misses an opportunity to reach this exceptional discounted price. "After all is probably the case that a small amount of text in red was in that sense urgency but not a good idea to cast your squeeze page in red on the extent that it looks more like a horror movie poster to a sales pitch.

The color is a subtle but powerful tool in your marketing arsenal. I think the source using similar colors, the logo of the product or the product gives a nice unit to the page. Choose your color carefully the central source has to be a good game but also has to be legible.

Source of Wisdom

Impact (and his lookalikes) seems to be the source of choice for Internet marketers worldwide. It's big and bold, as a program source old hand. I think there is also something of a military look to it. An impact thing is, is friendly. OK, so that the seller is not trying to be your best friend, he / she is trying to sell something. They want their offer is clear and simple for you to understand.

But "raw Shouty 'Is not the same as' clear and simple. "There are plenty of other web pages easily sans-serif (ie, characteristics serif do not disturb the final strokes) sources could try instead. Arial good old never hurt anyone, but yes, I realize that is not the tool exciting source of the box. Like Gill Sans – is a bit retro and a little more artistic, but still loud and clear.

A sense Style

Font styles can further improve your landing pages or to the detriment of if you're not careful. Underlining is the culprit greater when it comes to an unholy mess of the page. As if the impact was not enough as red van and made Shouty emphasizing the problem the whole lot! Use underlining sparingly, especially if your source is already big and bold. I'm a fan of italics and I find this useful "Halfway house" between normal supply and the brute force of emphasis. The italics are great for the selection of a paragraph of text to draw attention about it. Failure to do so by underlining or look horrible.

But it works ….

I have yet to see any comparative statistics demonstrating the superiority of a brash, full of impact, red-page text compression over a well designed page with typography clearly modest. If you know otherwise I'd love to hear from you. The good thing about having a squeeze page is to be guarded and stand out from the competition and perhaps even get some more sales. And, after all, is the point of the exercise.

I’m actually a bit lazy about squeeze pages. I tend to create them as quickly and automatically as possible using Wordpress Squeeze Page Plugin then edit them to fine-tune before uploading.
