Should I enter my horror movie via film festivals or self-distribute via the internet?
After wrapping up my feature length horror movie, i’m not sure whether i should enter it into some film festivals or do it myself through my own movie website. I can sell tee-shirts, posters, DVD’s and downloads of the movie and have total control. I feel like domestic and foreign distributors will “fee” me to death and i’ll never see any money in my pocket after everyone else gets their share. I’ve heard some horror stories (no pun intended) about no advances to indie filmmakers and foreign distributors taking the money and run….in other words, i’ll never see a return on my investment. I’m sure there are legitimate distributors out there, BUT, with the physical DVD stores going out of business, it seems to me that the internet is the future for indie filmmakers like myself. Any suggestions would be helpful.
